Science

‘Science is part of the reality of living; it is the what, the how and the why of everything in our experience.’

Rachel Carson

We believe that science is vital to our understanding of the world around us - everything we know about the universe is the result of scientific research and experiment.  We aim to instil in our children a sense of awe, wonder and curiosity about the world, whilst enabling them to understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of science through the disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics.

In line with the National Curriculum, we ensure that our children:

  • develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
  • develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
  • are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future

In our experience, schools and young people care deeply about environmental issues and have a strong desire to actively protect our planet. However, environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity-loss, or plastic pollution are huge global issues and the thought of tackling them can be intimidating, leaving many feeling overwhelmed and wondering ‘Where do I begin?’Our Eco-Warrior's aims to empower young people to make a difference here at Springcroft, in our local community and beyond. We aim to discuss and raise awareness of global issues like climate change, and break these down into more manageable, bite-sized chunks that allow us to understand environmental changes that we can make in school and our everyday lives.
